Cybersecurity risks expected to increase in 2017 The year 2016 saw a rise in cyber-attacks, both ransomware and distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) on small and large corporations globally.  Close to 50 percent of companies were subjected to some form of cyber-ransom attack in 2016.  Whether the ransom was medical records or street lamps, the threat is real.  Major DDoS attacks compromised many websites including prominent ones such as Twitter, Netflix, PayPal, and Pinterest. Ubuntu Heads List of Top Linux Servers in the Enterprise   ServerWatch has published a list of the top 10 Linux server distributions for 2017, with Ubuntu at the top. As the site said, that's no new distinction for Ubuntu. "At the top of almost every Linux-related list, the Debian-based Ubuntu is in a class by itself." Twitter sells Fabric software to Google

Twitter sells Fabric developer software platform to Google Fabric, Twitter's developer platform, now belongs to Google. The move was announced on Fabric's blog back on January 19th as well as being confirmed in a Twitter thread by Sr. Director of Product, Jeff Seibert. Acquired by Twitter in 2014, Fabric is a "a modular mobile platform" designed to help app developers improve the " stability, distribution, revenue and identity" of their products. Everything from the ability to natively embed tweets in other apps to signing in with your Twitter credentials were made possible by Fabric. Fabric will merge with Google's Firebase development platform. Labor Department sues Oracle Claiming hiring and pay Infractions   The U.S. Department of Labor warns that the lawsuit could cost Oracle multiple millions of dollars in federal IT contracts if it is found in litigation to be non-compliant to federal rules.  On January 18th a lawsuit contending that Oracle has made a practice of paying white men more then other men and women. It also unfairly favoring Asian workers when recruiting and hiring for technical positions. Since 1977  Oracle employs 136,000 globally with about 37 percent classified as minorities and 29 percent of which are women.   Women comprise 25 percent of the company's management positions.
